Fantasy...Fantasy...Fantasy. Isn't that a world to get lost in? I, personally, love fantasy. Give me anything fantasy related and I'll devour it in a day or two.
Now there are a lot of key points I look for when I read a fantasy book, which help me in judging whether it's good or not. I'll be including them down below so that you can decide if a book is good or not.
Worldbuilding: Now, hear me out, a good fantasy is something that should explain what is going on so that you, yourself, don't have to go hunting for the explanation of the world it's set in.
Character Development: So you're telling me there is no character development in this book and I'm going to be stuck with the MC for the entirety of this book? Nah, thanks, I'm out of here. Believe it or not, character development is the heart of a good ol' fantasy book. The morally grey character develops a heart? banger. The snobby tattletale has a reason for her being like that? Tell me what it is. The assassin is a lost princess? TAKE MY GODDAMN MONEY.
Writing: If the writing isn't good, I'm out. I seriously mean it, I'm a huge grammar nerd (very Asian child of me, I agree).
Now enough about me talking about the key points, onto the books that I'm sure you'd love.
2022 Fantasy Releases to look out for;
Only a Monster (Monsters #1) by Vanessa Len (@vanessa.len_writes on IG):
“If you need to run, always imply that you'll return.”
~Vanessa Len, Only a Monster
Trust me, this book is amazing. Gods, I love it so much. Think This Savage Song meets Asian Representation meets Back to the Future, and you have this book. Seriously, it's so so good.
Like I said this book has it all:
Amazing Worldbuilding✔️
Character Development✔️
The Writing is Imaaculate. I'm so in love.
Release Date: February 22nd 2022
The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea by Axie Oh (@axieoh on IG):
“Stories are both an escape from the truths of the world and the only way to see them clearly.”
~Axie Oh, The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea
Ok so, a disclaimer; I still have to read this. But the reviews are so so promising. The good news though, this is a standalone novel so you will not have to wait another year (usually) for book 2 to find out what happens.
Also, ASIAN MYTHOLOGY? consider me interested.
A hot HOT love interest? I'm so in for the ride.
Release Date: February 22nd 2022
Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid (@avasreid on IG);
“Well, you’re my first secret then, my first lie. Does that please you?”
“Only if it pleases you.”
~ Ava Reid, Juniper & Thorn
Fair warning for this one: It's pretty dark with adult themes.
A gothic horror retelling of The Juniper Tree? Color me impressed.
Release Date (expected): June 21st, 2022
Daughter of The Moon Goddess ( The Celestial Kindom Duology #1) by Sue Lynn Tan (@suelynntan on IG);
“Some scars are carved into our bones - a part of who we are, shaping what we become.”
~Sue Lynn Tan, Daughter of The Moon Goddess
Romance meets Asian Mythology in this fantasy adventure. Trust me, I'm currently reading this book and I am hooked. We meet Xingyin, who is the daughter of the Moon Goddess Chang'e, yes THE Chang'e, who has to visit the Celestial Kingdom to save mother dearest. I, honestly, cannot say anything else without spoiling it. Give this a shot, you will not be disappointed.
Release Date; 11 January 2022
This Woven Kindom (This Woven Kindom #1) by Tahereh Mafi (@tahereh on IG);
“What a strange girl you are...to behold a rose and perceive only its thorns, never the bloom.”
~Tahereh Mafi, This Woven Kingdom
Based on Persian Mythology, this spellbinding fantasy (Thanks, Sky) is full of forbidden romance, clashing empires, and a long-lost queen. Because this is on my TBR (to be read), I had to ask a few of my friends who have read this to describe it. Nevertheless, I am so excited to read this beauty.
Release Date: February 1st, 2022
The Drowning Summer by Christine Lynn Herman (@christineexists on IG);
Urban Fantasy meets a Murder Mystery meets queer romance? I LOVE IT.
Coming out this April, I am so waiting for this beauty to release. Plus I am here for the representation. So so excited.
Also from what I hear, this is supposed to be a sapphic fantasy retelling of The Great Gatsby. I cannot wait.
Release Date: April 19th, 2022
Foul Lady Fortune (Foul Lady Fortune #1) by Chloe Gong (@thechloegong on IG);

If you told heartbroken me who had just finished Our Violent Ends (These Violent Delights #2 by Chloe Gong) that Ms. Gong here was going to write a book about Rosalind Lang, I would have laughed my ass off. But no, here I am, waiting for some confirmation regarding the ending of OVE. To say I'm excited would be the understatement of the century.
Plus fake marriage meets spy thriller? SET IN THE SAME WORLD AS TVD?! hello? can someone send a defibrillator over to my side?
Side note: This will have some serious spoilers for These Violent Delights and Our Violent Ends, so beware.
Release Date (expected): September 27th, 2022.
The Ballad of Never After (Once upon A Broken Heart #2) by Stephanie Gerber (@stephanie_gerber on IG);
Sequel to Once Upon A Broken Heart, a spin-off of the Carval Series by Stephanie Gerber. This might just be one of my most anticipated 2022 releases. After being entranced by book 1, which is a top 10 2021 read for me, I am so so entrapped by this book. This will bring us more insight into Jacks' and Evangeline's story, after that cliffhanger of book 1.
Release Date: September 13th, 2022.
Book of Night by Holly Black (@blackholly on IG):

A dark fantasy with thieves and is similar to Ninth House (Leigh Bardugo) and The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern), this is sure to wow me. Also, am I sporting some Six of Crows vibes or am I just delusional?
TWS/CWS: death, gore, murder, child abuse, self-harm, alcoholism/drugging, captivity, mental health issues like anxiety and depression.
Fair warning: this is not meant for the faint of heart.
Release Date (expected); May 3rd, 2022
Anyway, that rounds up this blog (post?). Well, I'll be back soon (hopefully), pray for me because I've got my physics exam in 3 days. I hope you enjoy these books.
Toodles,
Ozzy
